There's a time when a man has to stand his ground, even when the odds are against him, even when so called friends turn their backs on him. Always do what is right becouse it is right. There are cowards all over the world and to few hero's.

Gary cooper should have gone with Dorothy Lamour. Stand up character, not to mention a real BABE..............

my dad showed me this movie when i was a kid in the mid 90's.... Gary Cooper is by far one of my favorite actors with high noon and sgt york being my favorites
Gary Cooper held the strong yet reserved characteristics of a real man... footsteps which i hope to follow

Good job on on this video. My favored western in the 50's. Still watch the re-runs.

Un hombre con honor. Que pena que hoy en día no se aprecie o se frivolice con esto.

Another thing that confuses things for me is that this movie was made in the middle of Korean War. Korea wasn't Vietnam but there were some who said we shouldn't have been in a land war on the Asian continent. The movie almost seems to say that you can't run from the bad guys forever (commie N. Koreans OR Frank Miller and his boys) and the U.S. will have to make a stand somewhere even at risk to home and hearth. Your thoughts on this angle? (Commie director does seemingly pro-war flick, or no?)

Yes you are right, John Wayne didn't want this role and didn't think the movie was patriotic - it wasn't. Reds worked on this movie and it shows - but the movie is great and that is why Cooper did it and supported Reds who wrote it.
Yes, it was a mix - hypocrite, coward Church folk and also many people who liked the town when their was excitement, vice, gambling, women, good economy etc. ie before the Church folk took over and ran off the (fun) bad guys.

It's interesting; this theme seemed to appear a lot in western movies and TV shows for decades. I know John Wayne would not take the role played by Cooper because he didn't like the end scene where the badge is thrown in the dirt. Funny though, Cooper during that era was known to be as right wing as Wayne. Also, were the people all cowards or were a lot of them sympathetic to the bad guys because they "were good for the economy?" Your thoughts?

Outstanding movie!
One of the best American movies ever - and not a patriotic, conservative movie.
This movie present small town America as being filled with cowards, hypocrites, only one man of honor and courage and the only person to see the truth is an Hispanic woman who goes for the Alpha Anglo males.
Really good flick and the McCarthy Congressional Committee looking for Reds in Hollywood was right to find them on this film.
The Reds did a great job here.
Really loved it!

A good compilation well thought out and once again a chance to see and remember a time when Hollywood had real stars.I've watched this film on and off for 50 years and still the greatest film ever made - storyline/music and emotion - a time when there was respect when a man done the decent thing!

My sentiments exactly. I have loved this story ever since I first viewed it back in the 70s, and was deligted this effort at editing turned out so well.
