My Dad Now Loves Gay People

My dad has gone from not supporting gay people to liking and supporting them. He now participates with his local gay/straight alliance group at the community college he goes to.

He is now a part of the what I call "the gay snowball effect."

As time goes on people's thoughts, feelings, and opinions about gay people are changing and evolving.

Hmmm. My dad also had similar views. As he got older, perhaps seeing wanting to re-establish a relationship with his son, he said that now he had no problem with me being gay. But I don't think that was true. Seein his own mortality getting closer, leaving my mother, he wanted to re-establish a relationship with his son. I wanted that too but I didn't want him to give up his beliefs. I just wanted him to love me; not my gayness but just to love me, his son.

Totally agree with you about the "snowball effect" that is certainly what happened in the UK. It deffinetly is "tabbo" and indeed a criminal offence to be homophobic here and thats a change thats taken just 10 to 15 years. Hopefuly the USA will be there in a short time too.

@badger5402 That's true but you don't ever know who's too closed minded. My parents threw me out (well gave me a few weeks to leave 1979 but attended my very gay wedding in 2004. Actually, they came around much earlier than that.

@StraightActingGayGuy You are certainly correct in many cases about proximity being a change factor. Unfortunately, they have to be relatively open to change, and some people are just so closed-minded it can't happen.
