And, I don't know about Naptural85 being a 4a/4b. Maybe it's her products or the way her hair hangs but it looks like it is a whole new texture that Andre didn't realize existed yet. I haven't seen anyone with her hair texture.

I don't pay too much attention to the hair typing system but my hair is just like your hair.
-
how is the jamaican castor oil working on ur edges?
-
You're right the typing system both typing systems should be used as a guide...it's not gospel. I have 3 different textures on my head that defiant depending on products used. But nonetheless I love it and I listen to my hair and give it what it needs...moisture and to be left alone lol

Only now using bentonite clay for nearly a year now do I have a 'curl pattern'. It's more curly now and it clumps but as soon as it dries, the hairs remains separate. My hair isn't coarse and it's more 'fine' or thin than my sister who could rock an afro! XD
I go on forums and just skip the posts mentioning 4a and 4bs gather together because I'm not one of them!

I get absolutely confused with the Andre system with 4s and 3s because my hair isn't 'kinky' or 'nappy'. I don't have a curl pattern. It doesn't clump together and it's kind of more straight but not wavy. :/ Wet, it doesn't have ANY curl defintion, and when I twist my hair it unravels easily. It doesn't hold a mark when unplaited and there is no 'shrinkage' WHATSOEVER!! 'Shrinkage' was an alien concept until I talked to my friend a couple months ago!

Very informative video, I like how you touched on alot of things. my hair has definite coils, but the individual coils are miniscule(sp?) like smaller than a penspring. I also have 75%+ shrinkage so in your opinion, would I be considered 4b or still 4a. I know its not important but I still would like a second opinion.

I agree, curl typing should be used as a guide. But what really matters most is the hair texture, density, and porosity. That really determines how product will react on hair. It is good to know our hair type though, it helps us know what we're working with. Very interesting!
"what you talkin about, I see curls!" lol I've realized that everyone thinks they have the most hard to manage hair until they find what works for them and stop comparing their hair to everyone else's

Great video. I don't even use the lois nor the andre guide. I got afro textured hair that needs water and oil. the end.

@janeblow80 EXACTLY!!! Once you take all the letters and numbers away you still are left with the same issues no matter what type you have: breakage, dryness, thinning, split ends, ect.

hair hair hair......my hair even curls up more or less depending on the conditioner or shampoo uses will alter how the hair reacts when it curls up.

@Br0wnSgr Yeah some products like that define curls more than other.... All I know is its way too much going on on my head to be tryna classify all my strands into specific groups lol
