Issues in Neuroscience: Social Disabilities.

Sort of follows on from Neurodiversity. I define the concept of social disability as how I see it, and talk about my opinions on it. A social disability, in my eyes, is a trait that causes problems due to the society we live in, but if we weren't social animals, and lived alone, wouldn't cause any problem.

Some examples I talk about are:
- Mutism and deafness
- Autism
- Tourette syndrome
- Friedreich's ataxia

Also, what can you do is helping people with social disabilities? But also, how can strange behaviours of a few people affect everyone else around them, or you, personally? Can you help it but to judge others, and do you really mean to cause harm? Bleh, society is complicated!

What a very good video. I think the world would be so much better if people stop making fun of other people because of their disabilities. I fully believe in Karma and it might not be the next day that Karma hits you but in the future and unexpectedly. Are you in school to become a Neurologist by any chance?

Thanks heaps. I'm at uni to be a neuroscientist, and I like to do research and be a lecturer. If I wanted to be a neurologist, I'd have to do med school after as well (though I have been thinking about it, but I think I prefer research rather then clinical work, not that I have mcuh experience in either to know!)

Friedreich's ataxia actually can be pretty bad. Love your stuff, but I have to say that Friedreich's ataxia is one of those things I'd rather not have.

Her talking style isn't at all like Temple Grandin as Temple Grandin has high functioning autism and nervousneuron does not have high functioning autism.

Kali Angel really needs some positive support. Here is a video we made when she had a visit to the Hospital for a breathing test. This 9 year old girl with Tourette Syndrome is working hard to be successful in school and in her career. He dream is to be a famous singer songwriter and she is in vocal music lessons but she needs to raise the funds to continue.
