"Blessed Assurance" is a well-known Christian hymn. The lyrics were written in 1873 by blind hymn writer Fanny J. Crosby to the music written in 1873 by Phoebe P. Knapp.

Crosby was visiting her friend Phoebe Knapp as the Knapp home was having a large pipe organ installed. The organ was incomplete so, using the piano, Mrs. Knapp played a new melody she had just composed called "Assurance". "What do you think the tune says?" asked Knapp.

"Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine", answered Fanny Crosby.

The hymn appeared in the July 1873 issue of Palmer's GUIDE TO HOLINESS AND REVIVAL MISCELLANY, a magazine printed by Dr. and Mrs.W.C. Palmer of 14 Bible House, New York City. It appeared on page 36 (the last page) with complete text and piano score, and indicated it had been copyrighted by Crosby that year. It is not certain that this was the first printing of the hymn, but it certainly helped to popularize what was to become one of the most beloved hymns of all time.

Based on Hebrews 10:22

vs.1
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

vs.2
Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

(Refrain)

vs.3
Perfect submission, all is at rest!
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with his goodness, lost in His love.
(Refrain)

  • Words seem much too trivial to describe the experience of watching your videos!

They make me choke with tears of joy!!

    Thank you!!

You went through a lot of trouble labeling every bird, and going into the history of the song itself! It is an educational trip other than all else!

Thank you, my dear sister! God has blessed you with an awesome gift!

  • RainhadoCanto4,

It blesses me and gives me much pleasure to know that you have yourself been blessed by these videos. I will be making more this week. I may do "Great is Thy Faithfulness" or "There is a Fountain" next. I have not made up my mind yet. But I think it is the voice of Ron Tolson that is so passionate, that helps you to worship our God. Once again, thank you for watching.

  • Actually, it is the combination of God's Creation, its sheer beauty, be it the magnificence of a waterfall or the delicate coloring of a bird or a flower, so very perfect every time!!

It's an experience to view and listen!

    Thank you!

Let me help you decide the above quandry in which you find yourself:

    DO BOTH!! HA HA!!

    THANK YOU!!

  • Hey there RC10,

I had a good laugh at your "adagio" with the ScienceFoundation on that bat video. I thumbs upped and downed as was necessary.

I had an excellent booklet once, that I aquired just after I got saved - it was put out by the Worldwide Church of God - a cult that turned and embraced orthodox Christianity - the booklet was called "A Theory for the Birds" (pun fully intended) and upon reading it, I knew it would be impossible for me to EVER embrace evolution in ANY way whatsoever.

  • Hey there Kitty,

I am glad you liked this song. I will be making more of them in the future. My next one will be Ron's version of "How Great Thou Art."

I hope you are doing well through your hardships. May God bless you.

  • This is the song played at my Papaws funeral in 2002.

  • I think you need to clarify where Ron has "butchered the song" and "changed things for the worse" as you accuse in your comment. All he does is leave out the second verse, and many artists do this for the sake of time. As it is, the song is already almost 5 minutes in length.

You could, of course, tell me what you know of this song, so that I might make an educated judgement on what you are saying. You may send me the lyrics you know in a PM, or you may post them here in the comment section.

  • Beautiful. Thanks. To me birds are the creatures that display the most unquestionably all of God's qualities.

  • Well, thank you, but you certainly did not see the other guy laughing!!

I will have to find out why birds got such "dismissing" fame! It seems they can teach us a lot, who just by INSTINCT know to do the right thing!

Besides, they were Created by THE MOST MAGNIFICENT ARTIST!

I will be looking into this book! This is a marvelous turn-around for an entire church!

  • Great video! Some are very colorful. Funny, though, how the male seems to be so colorful and the female drab. It is different in the human species. LOL I really enjoyed this one Liz.

  • Thank you, kitty for uploading. BTW, I subscribed after the interview with ProclaimTheWord. Good stuff.
