Read more about BP's oil spill cleanup efforts in the Gulf: http://bp.com/GulfofMexico
The spill response vessel Ella G combines three capabilities - skimming, sync units, and storage capacity -- for increased efficiency when responding to oily water. The vessel is outfitted with an advanced oil skimmer, tanks for oil decanting, and the processing technology advocated by Kevin Costner. With these three capabilities, it can skim almost 25,000 barrels of liquid per day, store of more than 6,000 barrels, and utilize four centrifuges to process what is collected.
so, at 25k barrels a day, it would only take 280 days to skim off the over 7 million barrels of oil that has spilled into the gulf.
oh wait, but when you skim, you suck up both sea-water and oil. so to get one barrel of oil, you need (conservatively) to skim 15 barrels of water or more.
so, at 25k a day it would take 4,200 days or nearly 12 years of continuous operation to clean this spill. bp, unless you're going to make 20 of these ships, i'm not impressed

@titulaernd It's the government's fault? Thats right, the governemnt is ONLY there to spend more than half of the budget for the Military Industrial Complex, the rest for bailing out the "banks", subsizing corporations and invading soverign nations or corrupting them with dictators and finanly, protecting corporations as much as possible making sure they have the most power in the world and cleaning up their mess though this is eco terrorism. But then again, we're "spending" to much right?

Many people are blaming BP when they really need to focus on who is really to blame here. It could of happened to any company. The US government are the ones who allowed this to happen. I personally commend BP for stepping up and spending tons of money on the clean up because they could of easily walked away and the corporate laws that the US set up for liability protection would of had them pay a fraction of what they have already spent.
