One of the best from the great Ray Charles. Ray Charles (September 23, 1930 -- June 10, 2004) was an American musician. Charles was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm & blues, gospel, and blues styles into his early recordings for Atlantic Records. He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notably with his Modern Sounds albums.[3][4][5] During his tenure with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company.
Rolling Stone ranked Charles number 10 on their list of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" in 2004,[6] and voted him number two on their November 2008 list of "100 Greatest Singers of All Time".[7]

  • My favorite Ray Charles, even more than "Georgia on my Mind",

  • Heinz Rohemheld and Mitchell Parrish's haunting theme from the 1952 Jennifer Jones/Charlton Heston starrer "Ruby Gentry" has never, ever been done better than by Brother Ray. Best recording ever.

  • I remember driving my car at night in the city, with this playing on the car radio the first time around. It haunted me then. I wish I could live some times in my life again. Thanks for posting this, because the memory is as good as it gets for me now.

  • Ray Charles music makes life so easier.

  • @44032 Richard Hayman, the composer, said Ray's version was superb.

  • @librarybob1958 Absolutely !!!!

  • @44032 Yes, Yes, me too !! they play Georgia a lot more though, so some don't know of this one... this is from an album all with women's names... :)

  • @MrZip61 Another version by Richard Hayman

  • @MrZip61 It was from the 1953 movie Ruby Gentry.

  • thank You!

  • perfect ray.....wonderfull

  • @MaximTendu So sweet and dreamy. Listening to the lyrics and lilting drama of "they say, Ruby you're like a flame" only fuels his heart stronger in his own opinion of his unshakeable love vs. any obvious fact or opinion. " Still, I don't care..." (care if I'm making a foolish mistake right now because I have this feeling that doesn't need to make sense to anyone else). Love really is blind, so Ray has great advantage here.
