@oregonninetwentynine I worke for a helicopter company that does agricultural work and this is done all the time. Its not a big deal.

@deltafox52 No!!!, c'mon is as safe as if you leave your car on P or neutral, and get out of it to go to the engine...for example...it's the same thing...there's no danger...!, and for the helicopter, that's cheaper and save TOO much time, to leave it in idle than shut down and restart engine...the engine uses more fuel at start up, than leave it on idle...and for time, you save like 10 minutes minimum...

@DenisFerrari No, is a normal practice in helicopters, it's as safe as people can walk around with no problems...with the rotor in idle there is no danger for the people walking around cause the blades are not turning for takeoff they're just turning with "dead" efect...when it takeoff, the blades folds a little bit to generate the "takeoff" and the helicopter leaves the ground, so when it's going to take off (not in indle), then it is dangerous for people to stay laying around...

As an helicopter pilot I 100% would NEVER leave a machine like that with engine (and rotors) running , even if in idle. Safety first, let's never forget it!

@constionsti lol yeah, its not like you actually just "sit" there... even with the frictions on... not holding the cyclic with the legs makes me nervous...

nope, def. not the same! what are you doing, when you forgot to tight the Friction and the Cyclic or somehting plays around? you must know: the Pitch lever is in the "lose" position, when its up...

@deltafox52 its the same thing as sitting inside the helicopter when its running, just
minus the pilot, its like letting a motorcycle idle on its own without anyone sitting on it, only a little more expensive

This pilot should be more carefully with his rotorcraft. Lots of pilots think at everytime about security. Letting a two million dollars helo running alone have ever caused accidents !
