http://chris.pirillo.com/is-email-becoming-obsolete/ Email is one of the oldest and most iconic initial components of what the world came to know as the Internet. While email has been around in one form or another since 1965, when multiple users of a time-sharing mainframe computer needed an easy way to communicate, there is no question that it has exploded in more recent history as users in homes across the world dialed in to what is now considered the largest single mass of information and commerce in existence.

As social networks and other methods of keeping in contact with people are being created, the question comes to mind as to whether or not email may actually become obsolete in the near future. For me, email remains one of my primary methods of communication. It would take something extremely innovative and absolutely universal to make email obsolete.

What do you think? Is email becoming a thing of the past?

  • @vatpil59 the cloud will replace everything!

  • texting on mobile phones will be the next big thing. In fact, I think moble phones will eventually replace PC's over time. Apps will take over browsers also

  • @PeeWeeLeagueGaming It doesn't really make a difference if you turn it off in the preference, all the information still goes to the IAO.

  • @derick1259 Your argument is invalid. You can turn that off in preferences.

  • @PeeWeeLeagueGaming Except the information sent on e-mail isn't sold off to advertisers and the governement.

  • @PeeWeeLeagueGaming But it not going die off.

  • @vidform this should be top comment. Very true.

  • I think email has it's own purpose. It doesn't require an immediate response. Email fits its name; it is electronic mail. I like adding weblinks to email to direct people to certain websites. And I like attaching files and pictures to illustrate what I'm talking about in the email. Also, it can be used as an electronic paper trail so you can go back over prior emails to make sure you understand what someone is talking about. Smart, simple and effective. A foundation of digital communication.
