oh and lcd tvs also can have image burn or ghosting...

for the top comments> while playing a video game say like call of duty online u would be worried about the mini map getting burned in. For that to happen tho the image would have to be there for hours and hours on end but since theres the loading screens, lobbys and pause screens and what not u have nothing to worry about.

I have about 60 hours on my Viera. I just hit the zoom button to fill the screen when needed.About 15 of these hours have been with the black bars,I see no effect on the picture.

@matthewraser i doubt it unless you could somehow manage to play the game for like 70 hours straight you shouldnt burn any, however this is why i bought a LCD tv so i dont have to worry about image burn

I have a Panasonic S30 with almost 400h and after a week of playing forza 4 (about 20h total) I have a very nice retention of the RPM/speedometer in the corner of my tv... It's still there after 24h00 of full frame tv, ~3h00 of scroll bar and at least 3h00 of this clip /watch?v=L4gE_Xez-fQ
The latest made the biggest improvement so far.

i now somebody with a vt 30 and they still get image retention.... May not have to worry about burn in if your not keeping a still image on for hours upon hours but u still have to deal with image retention which is annoying maybe in 2013 or they can fix image retention i doubt it will all be fixed by next year

Here's the issues with LED LCD, you will get some degree of back light bleed, it's near impossible to not have even a slight amount. Also when using LED's you have to take into account that it's using a bunch of tiny little bulbs and each bulb will have a tiny variance in brightness and color temperature. So there's a very real chance of your TV having bright spots or having slightly warmer and cooler color areas across the screen. Also the new LCD's have that soap opera effect : /

Panasonic claims that all there plasma's from there 14th genteration and newer can display the same image for 4 day's whitout any visual burn in... altrough they dont recomend keeping your tv on for that long,
oh and about the 1080p debat... if the box/tv says full hd it means that the tv will do full 1080p . if it says 1080p it means the tv is capable of downscaling 1080p signals into 720p ... so in other words if the box says 1080p it means the tv can play 1080p content but in 720p reselution

I just bought my plasma, AND INSTANTLY BURN IN, staight out the box, what the hell man, i didnt do anything, when i started the tv first time and bam, burn in.
What about playing video games? Should I be worried about image burn in even after the first 200 hours or so with the little icons that are always there with video games such as mini maps, health bars, ammo supply ect?
