These commercials aired on local ABC affiliate KGO on November 11th, 1985. Thanks to my Uncle for recording these.

1. Commodore 128 (OMG Amazing)
2. Nationwide
3. Sinutab (Creepy...)
4. Ford Aerostar (Back when comparing a van to the engineering quality of the space shuttle was a compliment)
5. Sperry (With Kirk Douglas!)
6. Army
7. McDonald's McDLT (Apologies for the skipping/channel change)
8. American Television And You
9. Don't Drink & Drive PSA
10. Promo for "ABC News" (Who the hell thought calling the missile defense shield "Star Wars" was a good idea? Seriously guys...)
11. Santa Cruz Lumber Co. (I think this company no longer exists)
12. Subaru
13. The Foot Doctors
14. Fremont Ford (This guy probably went on to major success as a Bill Clinton impersonator)
15. Jeep Comanche

  • Was this KGO? By the commercial tags, it seems like it might be KNTV.

  • Commercial tags?

Vol. 80 is from the same tape, and it has a KGO station ID.

  • It is probably a hybrid of KGO mixed with KNTV in it from '85.

  • I checked, and it's possible the last three commercials could be from KNTV, since those are from an episode of "The Big Spin" that cuts in after "Monday Night Football" on the tape. Everything else is from KGO though.

  • Why is there picture skipping? :P

  • Um,nearly 25 year old beta tape, dude. Some are great, others not so great. I'm going to be posting stuff that's potentially much worse than this.

  • 1. That commercial couldn't be any more 80s if it tried.

    3. One of my favorite commercials, no joke.

    4. Unsurprisingly, they stopped showing that ad shortly after the Challenger incident.

Great block of commercials this time out. :)

  • Wow! Get girls with a Commodore 128? Who needs to bring a MacBook Pro to Starbucks anymore?

  • Commodore 128 was backwards compatible with the popular C64, and could also run most CP/M software. However, relatively few 128-specific software titles were made. However, the C128 does have a strong following in the retro-computing world, and some have even managed (with add-ons) to connect them up to the current internet (text-only, of course!!)

  • I never really understood the appeal of the McDLT. It's a regular hamburger, expect you have to put it together yourself? Just how much damage did putting the "hot" and "cool" sides together 10 minutes before you ate it do?

I'm guessing that a little over two months later, Ford pulled that ad and pretended it never existed.

The lumber company jingle said "We'll help you build OUR dream". Why in the world would I want to help them out?

The Commodore ad did predict dating sites.

  • I recently found that Commodore 128 commercial on an Betamax (yes, BETAMAX) cassette that contained 5 hours of MTV footage from circa fall of 1985!!

  • That C128 ad couldnt be *anymore* MTV!!!!

  • I don't remember the McDonald's McD.L.T AT ALL, how long was it around for?

  • We had a Ford Areostar once, the sliding door fell completely off when someone opened it. My Dad never bought a Ford every again.

  • I'm in love with mid 80's cars ♥_♥

  • I have a friend who worked for Sperry as an engineer

  • I was under the impression that the Commodore 128 meant you were a nerd and it didn't really get you dates. O.o
