Actuallyit applies to xtra pt. there are 2 ways this can happen 1.) if it is blocked in the backfield and hits the ground IN THE BACKFIELD or 2.) if it is blocked or missed and DOES cross the line of scrimmage and DOES NOT touch the ground and is caught. In this case it is choice number 2 ha. I know this also because I was in the same exact situation as that team was in and i did the same thing that guy did except I didn't throw it on the ground. I kneeled it it in the end-zone for a touchback.

there is only one problem on this play----in high school football, ANY kick that crosses the goal line before it is possessed it is automatically a Touch back. according to the announcer, he caught the ball in the end zone, so that means the ball crossed the defenses goal line plane and therefore should be a TOUCH BACK. the fumble as a result would have never happened and the defensive team should have still won the game. Horrible call by the officials if this is what happened.

This was the coach's fault. On a field goal attempt in that situation you don't need guys back there. Just put them 10-15 yards deep to protect against a fake.
