The Juanita Reaves free clinic at the Joy-Southfield Health and Education Center on Detroit's west side provides uninsured and underinsured community residents with quality health care services. In addition to primary care, the clinic offers screening, prevention, education, and chronic disease management programs. Patients feel fortunate to have quality health services available to them. Philip McNulty is a regular patient at the clinic. He has high blood pressure and attributes the stability of his health to the personal attention and services he receives at the Reaves Clinic. "Honestly, this is a lifeline for people with minimum or no insurance. This is when I started to really appreciate the fact that Blue Cross Blue Shield was contributing to clinics like this one. I can count on the people here to help me when I need them." The clinic is primarily operated by volunteer staff that is motivated by their own personal mission to serve others.
