Hurricane Donna sliced through the middle Florida Keys with wind gusts close to 180 MPH, and a low pressure reading of 27.55 inches on September 10th 1960. A couple of days later, Miami''s Television station WCKT Channel 7 (NBC) weatherman Bill Ross interviewed then Hurricane Center Director Gordon Dunn about the origins of one of the greatest Hurricanes to ever effect the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. Hurricane Donna was a strong cat.-4 storm that produced winds as high as 100 MPH as far North as Miami Beach when it crossed the middle Keys between 1:AM and 3:AM on the 10th of September, 1960. Bill Ross served as WCKT Channel 7s cheif WeatherCaster from 1956 up until the late 1980s. He was by far the best on-air Weathercaster that station has EVER had. Both Bill Ross and Gordon Dunn passed away in the mid 1990s. This program was called Hurricane 60", Enjoy!

  • Within the 2:00 and 3:00 he said something that is so creative. The hurricane need to out flow the air and built its own high pressure and steered it self through the keys. This man is amazing.

  • I will have to check to see if I have anything on Isbell as I have a rather exstensive back-log of material. I will be uploading lots more goodies over the next several days, so stay tuned.

  • That's going to be amazing!!! Anything additional on Donna would be great to see. I've only ever seen a few clips here and there from Betsy but almost nothing from Cleo or Dora. Do you have anything from Isbell?

  • Mike, I have that 30-min. special also plus others on Donna, Cleo, Dora and Betsy which I will be uploading over the next couple of days.

  • Can't wait!!! I have a 30 minute special on Donna hosted by Ralph Renick that has some cool footage from Dick Dale, the WTVJ reporter who was in Marathon... you can see the storm surge coming into their motel room. This clip is amazing though, it's interesting how Dunn mentions the French airplane disaster at the beginning, I don't think they ever wound up attributing that to Donna?

  • This is AWESOME, Steve!!! So cool to see Gordon Dunn and Bill Ross, especially covering Donna! 5/5

  • Thanks for posting this! I grew up in central FL and was only 2 mths old when Donna came through so I dont remember her. But I always wanted to see any footage available. This is really great, thanks so much!!
