@AlexanderRozhenko that's the subconscious mind working my friend. When people go out to buy some wine they aren't really thinking 'Miles hated this wine in Sideways, so i'm not buying it.' The just 'intuitively' not choose Merlot.

@kpunk Actually, Merlot sales DID take a dip after this movie came out. Check out the movie's FAQ section at IMDB. I'm more of a beer guy, but I LOVE this film!

When in the movie is it revealed that he used to drink Merlot with Victoria? I take his comment as his thinking AMERICAN Merlot sucks (freedomland11 is correct (in part)). Interestingly, and the reason I say "American" Merlot (and that freedomland11 is only correct in part) is the fantastic bit of irony that few pick up on: Miles's prized bottle of 1961 Cheval Blanc is made of about half Merlot (the other half being Cabernet Franc).

I love how the tools that are so open to suggestion they'll do anything they hear or see in a movie stopped buying Merlot after this movie. National Merlot sales dropped. It wasn't that Miles didn't like Merlot, and he didn't think it was a bad wine. Miles and Victoria used to drink Merlot together, so he didn't want to have anything that would remind him of his ex-wife. But the idiots thought Pinot was better than Merlot, and Merlot sales went down while Pinot went up after this film LMAO!

@skateposeur12 I found this clip on the internet. I didn't take the fucking cussing out thats the way it was. So why don't you just watch the god damn clip and leave your snide fucking comment to yourself. there..now you have some mother fucking cussing to enjoy while you watch the clip. Fucking Hell!
