Midday reeling off two more G1 victories after winning this race makes her without question the best turf filly in Europe at present. IMO. Antara is a filly I'm really taking a great liking to as well. Never out of the money in 12 lifetime starts. Antara ran a strong 3rd in this race. Then was beaten by just a head by Stacelita in the Prix Jean-Romanet. Closing really hard, and fast on Stacelita at the end of the race. I really think it's just a matter of time until Antara land's a G1 win. JMO.
Since Midday faced Sariska in the Middleton Stakes back in May. She's been the most rapidly improved filly of any in Europe, IMO. She was great winning the B.C. F&M Turf at the end of 2009. But she's really improved leaps and bounds since that race. Taking down a real high class filly in Stacelita in this race, and a dual Oaks winner in Snow Fairy in the Yorkshire Oaks. Even if Sariska hadn't dwelted, and refused to run. I think Midday would've beaten her in the Yorkshire Oaks. JMO.
@NIJINSKY1063, It really doesn't matter if it was 1-1/2 or 3 lengths that Midday initially kicked clear of Stacelita. Because Stacelita is an awfully good filly in her own right. But how many other fillies or mares in the world could've pulled that go-stop-then go again on Stacelita and still kicked clear of her to win the race? That should tell you how great of a filly Midday really is to just start idling on Stacelita. Let her catch up. Then blow out and leave her again.
This race is a great example of how much of a talent that Midday is. Stacelita is an awfully good filly herself. Having won 7of her now 10 lifetime starts. How many other fillies or mares in the world could have pulled that go-stop-go again maneuver that Midday pulled and still kicked clear of Stacelita? Most would have been left in Stacelita's wake for making a mistake like that against her. Super effort by Midday to win the Nassau Stakes back to back.
Camera gave a false impression Midday was never 3 lengths clear, never more than 1 1/2 lengths. As soon as he cut across Stacelita, that horse had to switch and was always making ground on Midday from then on.
Something I really picked up on watching the replay that I didn't initially catch. When Midday first kicked on and went about 3 lengths clear of Stacelita. She was off to the races right then and there. If Midday hadn't pulled that start-stop-start again maneuverer that she pulled in the race. She likely beat's Stacelita by 6 or 7 lengths, IMO. I played a Midday, Stacelita, Strawberrydaiquiri tri-fecta in this race. Just missed that one. LOL.
ja but it would have been nice for monsun if stacelita would have won. monsun has a bad year as the ground in europe is much to firm. there were so many good 3year old monsuns, but they couldnt develop and win as they just cant run on the firm ground.
The thing I find funniest about this race was the Stewards inquiry. Surely to God, Stacelita's connection could not have believed the Nassau Stakes placings were going to be reversed after what the French Stewards did to Dar Re Mi in the 2009 Prix Vermille. Nice try though, and Viva la France. LOL.
An extraordinary performance. She really is a super horse. I don't think she gets the credit she deserves though.
