I would also like to add that I am glad that there are many "gandolf-esque" renderings because the JRRT character (Gandolf the grey) was based on Odin whom took the form of the old wonderer etc. Tolkein literally set out took to make a full amalgimation of the mytholigy of the British Isles and susequently its Germanic roots, for example. Excelent picture collection. Unfortuntely some of the artists didn't realize that Odin hung upside-down from Yygdrasil (the world tree) where he spied the Runes and sacrificed his eye into the wisdom pool. This was the inspiration behind the "hanged man" card; equally the emphisis on the symbolism of Jesus actually on the cross when Christianity hit western culture/British isles
