For this reason I consider my old Encyclopedia Britannica my best investment, in terms of what I can teach my children and grandchildren in the future. Even some grade school children can understand this, and certainly most teen-agers.

this is pretty much how american culture has been going for a while. it really exploded in the late 1990's and has been going strong since then. we've got to do something.

Whne most of the nation felt teh iraq war was wrong ... something like 7/10, and the bush administration still insisted that the war was the right thing to do.. and cheney even said that the people were wrong headed... then it should become clear that we live in an authoritarian country. Because THE PEOPLE were not represented in the choices of the state.

Yes, sir. The original pledge was written by a Baptist minister by the name of Francis Bellamy in 1892. He was part of a generation that lived through our country's Civil War. That's why the original phrase was "one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all". He knew of the atrocities of a divided nation.

Bogdan, the Founding Fathers gave us a Republic, not a democracy. A democracy in the Greek sense was when all citizens voted on all laws. Now you tell me, do you have a democracy, or a republic in your country?
It is an old government film from the late 40's, not long after WW2. Which makes perfect sense if you think about it.
