Great video and drawing Lon. I could never have done that in less than 10 minutes. :)

@lonhaverly Then why have the baby there if you are just going to draw a different face...?
-
what pencil is this?
-
@lonhaverly u didnt really have to use the baby as a model then. you pretty much drew from imagination regardless

Great video!

baby looks chinese in real life the one on the drawing looks indian lol

I really like this. It must have been hard trying to draw it with the baby moving around so much.

You are disgrace for ART DRAWING world. What a hell are you doing?? Drawing like this when doesnt even look like the model, model here is unnecesarly. Who paid this for you is disgraced. Find a real artist for portrait then this sucking man.

You try drawing an active baby, teaching a lesson on live TV, and directing a stucio at the same time - in less than ten minutes. You are nuts if you think that I put this here for your critique. It is here to encourage sketching metods, not to denonstrate photo-realistic balogne.

Is it better to hold the pencil sort of loose like you have it? Because when I draw I usually hold it tight like when I'm writing something. Or is it different with everyone?

Control is the thing. You have to be able to get control of your lines, so that every line counts, and every line is expressive.

Yes, control is the thing. You must practice your line exercises, and develop an ability to control your strokes. THat way, you will not be making lines that you will want to erase. Each line will be accurate, each line will be expressive.

why did you extend the baby's ear was the head tilted because it looked like you approched straight on 5/5

It is not a matter of just accuracy. It is a matter of expression and art. This is artist centered drawing, not form centered. I care more about the art than stiff accuracy. So I set limits, and that gives it style and jazz, not just rigid accuracy. The line is king, not the form.
