It is not true to day that the crew were within the blast radius of the weapon, 3 miles for a 0.01kt blast is perfectly safe, fallout yes, but blast no. Also, the maxium launch range was actually only 1.5 to 2.5 miles depending on the launcher.

The weapon was tested at a range of 1.7 miles with no injury to the launch crew - but the radiation dose to anyone within a quarter mile was fatal.

The weapon was withdrawn because it was seen as impractical, most of this video is complete BS
