Comet seen from planet Earth - BBC science

@hateutoo100 The thing I am wondering, if it's true that the tail is made out of ice or dust, then shouldn't the comets get smaller and smaller as they travel?

I think the whole 'ice and dust' idea of comets has seen its day come and go.

These things aren't burning off dust....it's a damn electrical charge of some kind.

lol a few years at best a few months at worst, I've seen on the news many times about an asteroid passing close by the earth and no one noticed until it passed by, if we have any notice of an asteroid hitting our planet then thats really lucky since a very small percentage of asteroids are actually monitored
