I'm working on a wedding reception video and slide show. Here is a raw clip from the interview video. The Canon XHA1 is my main camera with a Rodes NTG-2 mic attached. The Canon HV20 is my B-Roll. I have not made any post corrections yet. We are reshooting anyway on the the couple request.

  • great, i have hv20 and im getting xha1 in a few weeks.. quailty looks the same to me,=... but i want the xha1 to "look" like a professional... as we all know the hv20 looks like a cheap piece of sh-- enoughthough its very powerful.

  • The HV20 looks like a regular cam to most people who don't know what it's capable of. The HV30 comes in black so that should look more pro. I only use the XHA1 for business.

  • I really appreciate seeing this comparison! Thanks!

I've been bidding on XHA1's on eBay trying to pick one up, but wonder if it's just my ego wanting the 3 chip when the HV20 does such a wonderful job...

    What do you think?

  • The A1 is more flexible in term of manual controls. There are more benefits to describe so continue reseraching to see if the camera suits your needs. I bought it for business only and only use the HV20 for personal use.

  • did you use the auto gain?

  • The A1 does seem a good camera though but if my film get into the big screen with a HV30 critics and sales will rocket over that little bad boy camera!

Eventually I will get a pro camera to be taken seriously, Thanks all!

  • I want to make a film but look like a pro if you know what I mean LOL, The truth is I have seen a lot of comparisons in footage and there are hardly any differences. So I am just going to buy a Black HV30, and add the following Microphone, Lense , Hood, Beach Tec SLR port and then it would look the part.

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you .... these comments have been great I have spent weeks trying to justify spending so much money on the A1, every comment I have seen on the HV20 / HV20 have been excellent,

  • right now im doing a movie (look at my video) and im only using the hv20, no adapter or anything, and i played it back on my tv, and it looks amazing... and as long as my actors are getting paid or getting a show reel, they wont care how crap the camera looks, but they'll love the footage

  • Yeah, I think YouTube messes with the ability to properly compare HD video. Also, I agree with you on how the camera itself actually LOOKS. I shoot semi-pro stuff and I would hate for people to peg me as amateur because of a hand-held device...

  • i use the hv20 the most with a wide angle. has nice saturation without modification.

  • hv20 is great quality, i own one, but very narrow lens.

  • also true

  • true

  • lol...yeah...they are married now.

  • did he propose?

  • how do we know you didn't set the color features right on the Canon xh a1?

  • like i can tell with low quality of youtube
