i personally like the pvc consrtuciton method with live rock

Pretty good video, however I've always heard & gone by the rule not to turn ur protien skimmer on until the first fish has been in the tank for 6 weeks. This makes it so that while ur tank is cycling ur beneficial bacteria r not competing w/ the skimmer for what lil' waste there is to eat & can form strong colonies

can all species of fish be housed in this type of tank

Very informative and well excuted video, but running a wet dry filter on a FOWLR setup defeats the whole purpose of it. The live rock is your main source of biological filtration and if enough is used an external filter is unnecessary. Although I have a wet/dry filter and they are excellent for freshwater setups, bio balls are outdated technology and a magnet for excess phosphates and clog with debis over time. A skimmer is a good idea though.

im looking to get a bamboo shark, do i NEED live coral or live rock? or can i just use fake decorations?

If I wanted to eventually add corals to my fowlr aquarium, could I?

Please advise you didn't mention proper lighting with the FOWLR system. Can I use regular compact florecent lighting or do I need to get something more powerful? What would the minimum wattage per gallon be?

why do you recommend weekly 50% water changes? I heard it is best to wait until nitrite and ammonia read zero before doing any water changes.

@TheEgoFanBoy1 Doing a change every 1-2 weeks, or more often when needed, removes decaying matter, reduces nitrate build-up, replaces trace elements, and makes more oxygen available to fish.

Does the bio balls and filter media will help stop algae growth because I got a lot of algae growth 2 days ago but I can still see some growing? do I need a sump to stop algae growth better then using a hang on cansiter filter right?

@tvshowuploader3 Testing is key here, not necessarily which filter. Best to always first make sure your water quality isn't creating an ideal environment for algae - check your nitrates daily and perform frequent partial water changes. Bio balls and sumps may in fact create more nitrates, so you have to be that much more diligent in your husbandry. Other thoughts?
