On October 11, 2009, a Brooklyn audience braves the October cold to watch It Don't Pay To Be an Honest Citizen in a lot beside Freebird Books. The movie was shot in 1984 and recounts the director Jacob Burckhardt's experiences being mugged in Red Hook. Spectators seated at a picnic table eat dinner as William Burroughs asks protagonist Reed Bye why he wants to recover his stolen property. Most the locations were filmed around the Columbia Street waterfront near the bookstore. To order a DVD of the film, go to itdontpay@mindspring.com
