CCTV monitoring of elver and small eel using a simple brush pass to get upstream over a high weir. Eels are born in the Sargasso Sea off Bermuda and take up to 3 years to get to Europe. Many ascend rivers and may spend up to 30 years in freshwater before returning to spawn. The species are in decline and many weirs are barriers preventing upstream movement. The Environment Agency are installing these simple and very cheap passes which use thick monofilament filaments in a pre-formed channel, with a small flow of water trickling down. They work really well and assist the re-colonisation of many river systems. Some of this video is speeded up.
