A ride aboard BC Transit - Victoria Motor Coach Industries MCI "Classic" model TC-40102N #920 on route 11 towards the University of Victoria - UVIC in February of 2009. Bus is geared low for hills and is powered by the Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine and the Allison V731 transmission. These were the only MCI Classics aside from Winnipeg Transit's MCI Classics that were built in 1988 with the larger rear window and have the fibreglass rear engine tailcap. This style of tail cap became standard for 1989. The large rear window style seen on these 1988 Classics was modified later as seen on 1989 and newer Classics right to the end of Classic Production in the beginning of 1997.

  • Apparently this is bus 920 and not 926 as I originally thought it was. I have changed the video info to reflect this.

  • Would you know off hand how many of the MCI Classic's were sent off to be stored at berks intertruck in duncan, cptdb said something about that?

  • @4751424 - I don't. Sorry. Latest post indicates that they were all gone now.

  • Did Most of Victoria's MCI Classic's get sold, because 928, 935 and 938 we're transfered to Abbotsford according the cptdb website.

  • @4751424 - Good question to ask on the CPTDB or search the threads some more as I am not entirely sure. 4 of the Classics are now in the Calgary area. all of them were from the 1991 batch (941-956).

Some of the Classics I believe were scrapped.

  • @busrailfan i bet Calgary will still have most of their remaining GM Fishy's after Toronto TTC retires rest of theirs by next year or two from now.

  • @busrailfan Gosh, Calgary is ONE LUCKY CITY, I wish I live there.

  • well, i visited the Busdrawings website and i saw those 4 1991 MCI Classics that were sold off to calgary, there now owned buy the spruce meadows shuttle company.

  • @busrailfan yeah, I heard also that Bus #938 is now operating in abbotsford and 928 in kamloops. A mechanic at the LTC told me a some were scrapped at point ellice not knowing how many.

  • @busrailfan I love Calgary, they also still operating 10 secondhand Ex-Connecticut 1990-92 MCI Classics and all their rehabbed 1991 MCI Classics. Toronto TTC just recently retired their last 1977-1980 GM Fishbowls, now still operating 1981-83 GM Fishbowls until by 2012 or sooner.
