http://www.mehrnews.com/en/newsdetail.aspx?NewsID=1351062 ------------- 'Iran will not restrict itself to closing Hormuz Strait if threatened'
Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Commander Mohammad Ali Jafari has said that Iran will not restrict itself to closing the Strait of Hormuz if the country is threatened.
Closing the Strait of Hormuz is on Iran's agenda in special circumstances and in the event the country is threatened, Major General Jafari told the Mehr News Agency in an interview published on Monday.
"Due to the strategic location of the Strait of Hormuz, the issue is always on our agenda. Besides, we have not restricted ourselves to this and have not stopped at this point," Jafari stated.
He added, "Currently, we are seeking to utilize our defensive capabilities in open seas. And it means that if the enemy plans to pose a threat to the Islamic Republic of Iran from outside the Strait of Hormuz, (Iran) is capable of taking reciprocal action, and this strategy is currently on our agenda."
Cyber Army fully prepared to address cyber threats
Elsewhere in his remarks, Jafari stated that the Iranian Cyber Army is in full preparedness to counter any possible cyber threats against the Islamic Republic.
If the enemy commits any act of cyber warfare against Iran, the country will take retaliatory measures, he said.
The IRGC commander also stated, "(The nature of) the IRGC's mission in all spheres, including the military and cultural spheres, is defensive," and the IRGC will carry out defensive operations in cyber warfare as well.
Enemies plotting to assassinate Iranian scientists
Jafari also announced that the IRGC has obtained information about some new plots to assassinate Iranian scientists.
It seems the plans that Iran's enemies had previously drawn up have failed, and they are now resorting to plots to physically eliminate the country's scientific figures and terrorist actions with the aim of undermining security in the Islamic Republic, he added.
However, Iran's security and intelligence apparatus, in cooperation with officials in other government institutions, will be able to scuttle such plans through vigilance, Jafari stated.

@polygamous1 I don't think Iran is a threat to anyone. Remember Iraq? The US told everyone they had proof that Iraq had nuclear weapons and used that as a basis for an invasion. They even presented the proof (a document) to the UN. So far, no WMDs have been found. The same thing is happening all over again, this time with Iran. Iran right now can't even make nukes. They need 90% enriched uranium to do that, but they have something like 20% enriched.

@DoctorEnzo Part of it the Strait is in Oman, but oil tankers MUST go through the Iranian part as there is NO other shipping lane through the strait. You cannot go into the Strait through Oman. Once you get past the Iranian part, then you go through Oman's territory. That's how it works.

@GishabrunLOB "there's something called territorial waters"....Yes you are right...However they are 12 miles from the coast. The straight is 34 miles wide. Do you need a calculator, or do the Iranians? Please explain why IRAN can claim this "international water" over Oman or UAE? Answer is they cant. I am sure Iran "claim" this water but they can talk shit all they want.

@GishabrunLOB Nope its 34 miles at its narrowest point, with 12 miles being the international border you can see thats not right, what Iran claim, but this is not suprise Iran spout this shit. Iran have no claim, and none over the straight over either Oman or UAE, why woudl they. Do Iran think they have more of a claim that Oman or UAE...typical idiot Iranians

@DoctorEnzo The shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz start out in Iran's territory, then go into Oman's. You HAVE to go through Iran to get through the strait through a shipping lane. Again, this is on Wikipedia's Strait of Hormuz page. (4th image)

@DoctorEnzo You can continue denying, but there's something called territorial waters. Let me give you a lesson in geography. The Persian Gulf gets really narrow at a point called the Strait of Hormuz, then gets wider after that. At this narrow point, which all ships pass, the borders of Iran and Oman go straight to the centre of the strait. In other words, there's NO way anyone can pass without going through Iran's or Oman's territory. This is all on Wikipedia's Strait of Hormuz page.
