Merciful storeowner changes robber's mind, religion

A grateful shoplifter has returned the favor to a New York convenience store owner who showed him compassion during an attempted robbery earlier this year.

It all started in May when Mohammad Sohail was closing his Shirley Express convenience store, about 65 miles east of New York City. A man wielding a baseball bat came barging into the store and demanded money.

Sohail had a rifle and quickly pointed it at the robber's face, forcing the man to drop the bat and fall to the ground. What the robber didn't know is that the gun was not loaded.

Sohail says the man started to plead with him tearfully saying, "I'm sorry, I have no food. I have no money. My whole family is hungry. Don't call the police. Don't shoot me."

The store owner felt bad for the man and gave him $40 and a loaf of bread.

He went to get the man some milk but when he returned, Sohail says, the would-be-robber had already fled with the money and food.

On Wednesday, the shoplifter made amends with a $50 bill and a thank you letter for saving him from a life of crime. The letter did not have a return address.

In the letter, the man apologizes for his actions in May and said it was out of desperation to provide for his family. The man, whose identity remains unknown, also said his life has changed drastically and that Sohail's acts inspired him to become a "True Muslim."

Wonder if the robber would have converted to islam had this store owner not held the gun to the head. & also wonder, if the muslims are so kind, how come they do all that they are doing in India even today? Entering people's temples & stopping them from praying the way they have been praying for >100 years before the islam even existed, let alone destroyed the world, & not to forget what they did on american & european soil. does this one person absolve all of these criminals?

Do not forget, it was not religion that caused this man to forgive the robber, it was just his moral upbringing. Religion had nothing to do with it.

Just want you all to know Mohammed Sohail passed away August 20th 2010 of a heart attack. Mohammed was my friend of 17 years. The planet earth has lost a giant of a man.

People, do not get fooled by the tricks people use to get ahead by lies. Especially when it comes to your beliefs in a God. A true God. There is only one. @ the shop owner. Nice try guy but I see the truth. And like the false mercy you showed that actor who tried to rob your store, The true and living God will show you true love and true mercy. Just ask Him. It's pretty cool but I wonder #1, if it was a real video( a fake video made by actors to promote a false religion and his store through publicity , Notice that the store owner had an AK under the counter. . LOL who keeps an AK under the counter. If someone had a bat, tried to rob a store, and sees the owner going under the counter, sees the AK, I bet the crook would have bolted out of the store faster than Flash Gordan.
