This is amazing. You had her going so well! And this was only her first ride? Its spectacular.

Love the colts expressions when you first touch touch his leg when its on the ground! Its like HELLO what are you doing with my extermity?!?
-
I see what you did there. Not to nay-say you but you did do groundwork with that horse. He doesn't have any significant fear issues, and you got the bridle on him before you started so that tells me that he's been handled a fair amount. It's not that you don't do groundwork, it's that you cut right to an advanced desensitization (laying down) and use your experience/timing to deal with any problems that come up as a result of skipping the intermediate steps. IMO. ;)

how come the horses getting worked with always end up on the ground? i work with thoroughbreds every day and this seems bizzare but his results are amazing

Now thats funny. My wife has been telling me for years that I can't start riding a horse without doing the ground work first. I done the same thing with my young horses but I use a rope halter and ride bear back as you do for the first while untill they get what I'm asking them down to a T. I still can't beleave that what I saw. Wait untill I show the wife lol. Keep it up 5/5

If you think he's pretty awesome on the vids, you should meet him in person. One of the most talented horsemen in the world, and the nicest person you would want to meet.
-
You tapped him in the snow, That's funny!
I really like your vids, I love that you're nice & gentel *Can't spell* Yet though & firm

yeah seriously id like to know too haha

it looks sooooo easy :P

im surprised how good he was when you first got on him
i strapped for bart cummins a long time ago, and saw comfort and confidence sacrificed for expediency, which was understandable but awful. your sensible, respectful and firm manner with horses is the kind that produces such performers as laurie lever's showjumpers of sometime ago in australia - you may have heard of him. quiet, able and well mannered horses. i wish you much success, you deserve it. cheers mate. w.

Thanks for the comment, I used to work for Bart around 1987 at Randwick so we might have crossed paths...

i got a 5 month old colt a week ago and ive been watching your videos, is this how i should break him in when the time comes?

No, you have time on your side so take advantage of it. This is extreme and not recommended for everyone. I will have a colt staring DVD out soon that will be slower and easy to follow for when the time comes.
