Finally I have the car up and running after a year of downtime. The last motor dropped a valve and was pretty much destroyed. The new motor is basically the same as the last one except the new block is o-ring'd and we are using different cams (gsc s3's). The car is still pretty torn apart (about to change the gauges around). In the next couple weeks I'll switch it over to AEM EMS and retune on e85 with some more boost :)

  • switched to an EL header yea...also what made you go with larger clearances and thicker oil?

  • @CRH004 It's still the same old Gruppe-s UEL header - the new cams changed the sound of the engine considerably. The tuner/builder used larger clearences based on experience with other high RPM motors they built. I'd bet that the larger clearences are used to combat main bearing distortion when the block halves flex at high boost/power levels.

  • Woot, you're back! Looks like it pulls nicely at WG boost - can't wait till you turn up the wick!

Say, you're using a stock crank @ 8000 rpm? What are your clearances on the mains and rods? What kind of oil weight and pressure are you running?

  • @isamu207 .0022" mains, .0025" rods, and .004" p/w. I'm running valvoline vr-1 20w50 with zddplus additive, and it sees 50psi oil press at 1200rpm idle and 90-95psi up top in 90-100 degree heat.

  • @jays05 Damn, that's a lot of pressure (good!) for those clearances - 10 or 11 mm pump shimmed? Guess you've got the oiling figured out for 8k. I'm running .0018* mains, 0025* rods and .003 p/w on my destroked 2.35 but am only seeing 75 psi max up top on 15w40 Rotella-T in high 80s temp (11mm pump /w 2 shims) - something's not adding up on my build. :\

  • @isamu207 It's an 11mm oil pump and I was surprised about the oil pressure. Where's your temp sensor located? I'm measuring where the dummy light sensor used to be.

  • you should get the 07 STi Transmission

  • Still in NC?

  • how much hp did it make?? i have a 2.5 with a precision 6765 on 40psi with air leaks, making 500kws or around 680hp .it looks simular to drive ,full boost by 5000 haha

  • Holy smokes... That thing flies! And it is such a far cry in sound from any EJ series engine I've heard. I LIKE IT.

  • hi jay since it gruppe s header what kinda turbo the gt35r is rotated or stock location i am quite curious to know

  • more boost :))

  • You back in NY?

  • Welcome back ;-) My beast has been down for 6 months, but it's almost done ;-) Will be meaty like yours as well ;-) Otherwise, your two Walbros are going to be borderline for running E85. Becareful.

  • @jays05

interesting how it changed the sound so much...is your waste gate and other exhaust piping the same? Also have you used ARP engine case bolts? I was told to use .0015" on the main and rods to rev to 8k. Which I did and am running a 35r with big cams and such...no problems yet...interesting the larger clearances Ill have to look into that...

  • Gears sound longer, 07 gears?
