Yes i remember cyclone namu it was in 1986... i was a crew of the m.v Belama the solomon islands marine ship. We were on the ontong java islands at that time seeking shelter between the small atoll islands.
to skybluetrades. I remember cyclone namu. I was 5 yrs old at the time, hiding underneath my uncles leaf house, hearing all the thunders, lightning. river had flooded and few illness followed. families were praying like crazy in pitch dark. gardens were ruin and no crops the relief was some help. both islands don't have bad people just those who want to bring others down with them just because they are finding it hard to cope with wanting the western life.comes poverty, crime, politics and power.
I was in SI 21 years ago with a US Marine detachment in the wake of cyclone Namu. It was a beautiful place with friendly people. I stayed at Auki Lodge most of the time. Anyone out there remember Namu or the relief effort that followed? At that time I never heard an unkind word between people from Guadalcanal and Malatia. It looks like things have changed...for the worse.
