Arippu residents flee their village as Sri Lanka Army troops advance and occupy their village in Musali division on 1st September 2007. 13 civilians were killed when a mine exploded as they attempted to escape the conflict in their van. Over six thousand people were displaced to other areas of Mannar district sleeping in schools and churches and are still homeless at the time of uploading. They had to cross this river in one battered boat to get to Nanattan on foot with what little possessions they could carry. The earliest they will be able to return to their homes may be February 2008. It has been reported that many possessions left in their homes, especially electrical items, have disappeared.
