Another thing: If you've played any sports here, the coaches are really cliquey... They like who they know and that are good... The education is good but the people try and act ghetto.
This is one of the most ignorant videos I have ever witnessed. I hate to break it to you, but go ask how things are in Westlake, Avon lake, Elyria. You'll get the same answer everywhere you go, every school is like this. If you chose to make your experience in Amherst this terrible, then I pity you. You seem like quite the pessimist considering all the wonderful things Amherst has to offer. I know people who made it quite far in sports with no ties to the community whatsoever. Pitiful.
I've never been to a such an awful community in my life. the amount of ignorant pieces of shit in Amherst, OH is amazing. Where doing drugs is "cool". For sure avoid this city at all costs. Lorain (the city to the east of Amherst is more tolerable, just the school system isn't that great. Much more diverse and accepting people in L-town compared to Amherst, OH).
It is known that the "Klan" holds meetings in Mill Hollow. If you're a minority, I definitely don't recommend you go near that place at night time. It may sound silly, but I've had a 6 foot cross burned in my backyard in 2005. In high school, someone dressed up as a Neo-Nazi and was never told to change his Halloween costume. It disgusts me.
Not everyone in Amherst is racist, but I can definitely say it's been instituionalized here. Ignorant people are everywhere, but this city certainly isn't accepting of a lot of different types of people. When my parents moved to this city, the man who showed them around the city made sure to note that "there are no n*ggers living here" and that was in the early 80's. Red Lining and racism is extremely prevalent in Amherst, OH..
Amherst, Oh is extremely racist. I grew up there seeing people dress up in black face, been called the N word more times than I can count, cross burnings, and there is even a 6 o'clock bell that symbolizes for alll non-whites to leave, and have a KKK uniform proudly displayed in Quigley Museum. Kids grow up thinking it's "okay" to call non-whites nigg*er and have no understanding of successful minorities who AREN'T in entertainment. It's a place where teachers don't help the situation out either
