I'm one of the most lax climbers in the world when it comes to safety and regularly boulder far higher than I should. However this girl is an awful climber and could fall easily, thus needing to rely on your awful belaying technique. Your left arm should be going under the rope and belay device in order to keep the rope locked while you shuffle your hands. I have never even seen someone belay like this before.

that style of belay is no good for atc, but cool for a grigri.

@skarootz The belay is the main thing (other than a rope and harness) that keeps a climber from hitting the ground if they fall. If the belayer lets go with his/her brake hand and the climber falls, if the belayer isn't quick enough to catch the rope then the climber hits the ground. This person is belaying very wrong.

@willemijnbalk Don't be such a drama queen. It's not the safest method for belaying with an ATC but if you think she won't have time to catch her climber in the event of a fall you're wrong.

These moves are lousy. Sorry, but this is in no way decent climbing.
However, the belaying tehnique she uses is even worse. Pinching the rope with your left hand wile holding the brake end up in the air, and then LETTING GO with the brake hand? Excuse me? If she falls during one of those pinching moments, she's right besides you in a second, and in a hospital an hour later.
Lousy climbing I can live with, lousy belaying kills people.
