Ahem... hand me down engines? Dont you know that Volkswagen OWNS Audi and Lamboghini and They produced the veyron..... so yeah. And they are slow only from 0-60 other than that they are beastly especially the vr6 engines. And the gti is made not only for sportiness but luxury sportiness it doesnt want to just be a big plastic toy but to be well built with a reliable engine. Which is has. And its slower mainly because its 3000 lbs

to be completely honest it has never broken down. the only incident was when the vw dealer had my engine out doing some work they didnt connect some things right and the turbo hose blew off (will never go there again to get work done there iq's are borderline retarded). Also ive never really been around the jetta so im unable to form an opinion though it sucks you did not get the 1.8 its an awesome car to drive on the track. handles amazing with any descent coilovers.

bro I alost got a GTI a 1.8T. Then I did some research and couple of my friends had Jettas 1.8T and they broke down shitload. I agree on the pontiac, not very relaible, but I havent had a problem with the trans am, if i had another pontiac(god no) that car would be a money pit. U have a 1.8T, u cant tell me that it hasnt broken down at least twice. The R might be a challenge for the Trans Am :)
