because, Mr Badass, that's what Rachmaninov asks for. His tempo marking of 'Poco Allegro' is almost universally ignored now, because Western choirs are too concerned with trying to mimic what they think is an authentic Russian/Ukrainian interpretation. But what works for Eastern Europe doesn't necessarily work for a small choir of American undergraduates (with 28 singers). I honestly prefer to obey the composer's instructions rather than follow the herd...
