The globally successful Brit with Bengali roots presents a fantasy on spirituality that is as poetic as it is delicate, accompanied by the spherical sounds of Nitin Sawhney's music. Inspired by the tradition of Sufi dance and the Persian poet Rumi, Akram Khan immerses in non-linear concepts of time. Eight dancers go on a journey from gravity to grace. The result: a meditative group piece about rituals and the consequences of human action in an aesthetic which -- probably partly because of the fantastic costumes by designer Kimie Nakano -- is reminiscent of Japanese Butoh.
