A video of Jim talking about the SSL X-Desk at Musikmesse in Frankfurt '09.

Sorry about the abrupt ending in the video. I have no clue about what went wrong.

More info and my opinions on the X-Desk can be found at:

  • For those that don't "get" this i suggest you research summing mixers and then come back to the x-desk and see why it's a pretty fully featured "summing mixer". It's not a proper "mixing console".

  • @wyzevid don't comment on things you don't understand- people spend a lot of money and are SUPER sensible picking the gear that their mix will go through, especially mastering processors. This desk is considered a summing mixer primarily- a cheap summing mixer would defeat the purpose. People use good summing mixers in order to get some analog colour and headroom into their digitally produced music. If you cheap out on your summing mixer all you'll do is degrade the quality of your mix.

  • thank god for digital audio and ITB mixing, software etc... its these types of price gauging companies that made everybody get in the box ...charging an arm and a ballsack for a little piece of shit mixer.

My cheap behringer mixer sounds better than them shits and does more ... for 1/8 the price that damn thing isn't worth 3.5k. Analog and digital have different sonic quality but you can get a $20 old skool eq and put it at the end of a soundcard or a behringer mixer and get the same effect.

  • They are meeting the demands of recent trends that are all about analog summing. Yes, it seems like a lot of money just to get analog warmth. I think TL Audio has better, more reasonably priced alternatives to accomplish the same goal. But, it's still a lot just to get your music "out of the box".

  • the AMS Neve Summing Amp with only 16 Inputs costs 2.500,- € and you don´t have this nice Monitor Section and the price is ,,only" 2.000,- €.So I would buy it.(as a summing mixer I think it´s great)

  • i want the ssl mini crap mix for idiot rich people don t know mackie

  • the only issue i have with it is that it's not modular, meaning one solid pcb board with everything mounted to it, so if something goes wrong with one channel you have to replace the whole pcb board, where as ones like api or chandler you just remove the channel and get it repaired. much more cost effective at this price range.

  • I still think its incredibly overpriced for the lack of features...$3000 for a one trick pony...not so much

  • its only the signal hardware.. what is the "worth" meaning?

  • Dangerous 2 bus is near the same price and it doesn't have any pres, eqs, or comps either. Its an SSL summing mixer with faders...and more options.
