@bigdogITbiker - folks show them to have them evaluated by a certified judge. Like any other animal breed show, it's evaluated for its fiber and conformation. The better the placing, the better you know which animals to include in your breeding program. Animals can be shown in performance classes, too
You can also show just the fleece at fleece shows. Also, you can have a fiber herd for fiber production. The fleece is our "product" so it can be sold and/or processed into yarn.

besides participating in shows or competitions, what else can people do with alpacas, to earn a living from them? I am considering starting an alpacas farm ( like ownning a few, and then more as things progress). thanks
