Dr. John Galgiani and David Nix have led a team of researchers to develop a vaccine against valley fever also known as coccidioidomycosis infection. This is a nasty respiratory infection that affects both humans and some animals, and in Tucson we are especially succeptible to this disease as we are in the center of the geographic distribution where the fungus causing this disease thrives in the soil.

John N. Galgiani, MD, Professor of Medicine and Director of the Valley Fever Center of Excellence and Member BIO5 Institute; David Nix, PhD, Associate Professor, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice & Science. The 5th annual Innovation Day at The UA was held on March 25, 2008.
