If you happen to be in Esperance, Western Australia, you have a choice of two roads to Balladonia at the beginning of the famous Nullarbor highway and 90 mile straight (see other video). Either you head on the sealed Esperance Hwy which connects to the Eyre Hwy (400kms) or you head to Condingup and take the shortcut (200kms). If you have a suitable car the shortcut is far more interesting.. this is some of what you can expect...
I did this sort of trip on this sort of road in this sort of wet ot dry weather when I made several trips across the old Eyre Highway in my VW in 1964 to 1968. Thats when it was dirt road from just out of Pt Augusta, right across to Noreseman. Balladonia section, about 1000 miles. Loved every second of it.

I did that so called shortcut in Jan 09 in a 94 Verada despite advice at Esperance not to! It takes longer but is worth it. Great seeing the 2cv work it's way through the flooded parts. They chop the road up at the Balladonia end so most go through Norseman. I'll be posting video's of my drive on this road in the next few weeks.
