  • @OrthodoxDarwinist Sounds about right. I have dealt with smaller publishers with book proposals.

I have been a working writer for 15 years writing articles for magazines and newspapers.

My advice to anybody who wants to write books is-dont write books.

That's a mistake most people make. They write entire manuscripts and then wonder why nothing happens.

They should keep in mind that Pub houses are geared to say NO 90% of the time-that's the business.

  • Unfortunatly you forgot to mention that publishers these days will NOT look at your manuscript unless is is submitted by an Agent. More over this would of been more helpful if you had of stated had to get Certian types of work published, not just fiction Novels. What about playwrites, short stories writers or poetry? *sigh*

  • The publishing industry is incredibly highly fraternal; the writers, editors, publishers, etc are all in bed. If you're "in", they will accept and promote any crap( (ie: Michael Crichton), no matter how talentless and heinous it is. If you're out and you can write like Proust mixed with Hemingway, you nevertheless have shit-all chance of finding a reputable publisher.

  • When I'm rich I'm going to make an Authors Guild to bully the tyrannical Publishing industry

  • Thanks so much for the information, it was really helpful.

  • I believe this Bull crap like I belive in santa clause everyone knows that the literary industry is and always has been run by the mafia.

  • Awesome short sweet and to the point but it also had a lot of information. Awesome job

  • So well done. Straight to the point and just what the answers that i have been looking for. Thank you :-)

  • Thank you so much - v v v v insighful! Do you know if the same rules apply for UK-based publishing houses?

  • Well done! A great Video. Dale Beaumont
