100s of babies die every year from a preventable health problem, Shaken Baby Syndrome. University Hospital is using a high tech doll to demonstrate how adult frustration can damage lives in a matter of seconds.

I couldnt even play the part that lady did with the doll, i know its a plastic toy thing, but just what it represents i couldnt do it, my daughter is 3 weeks old and up untill i she was born i couldnt think of the reason i was put on this earth, but when my Abigail was born thats the moment i realized, shes the reason i wake up everyday, STOP SBS!!!!

Call someone & ask for help. EVERYONE knows an unconsolable, screeching infant can grate your nerves to the point of anger. Call your parents, friends, 911, even a neighbor...put the baby in the crib & walk away for 5 min & regroup. It only takes a moment of stupidity to end up w a lifetime of regret, a dead or brain damaged child & prison!

@jd5179 there are a lot of people who just lose control and just start shaking them to stop their crying. which jst makes it worse

@jd5179 “Who would do that?” The answer is “anyone is capable”. Caregivers who are stressed with other life issues, lack experience or understanding about infants, or become overwhelmed, can lose control for just a moment and shake an infant. Infants are more at risk from 2-5 months old, peak time of crying difficult to soothe. When people understand that crying is normal and have a plan to deal with it they are less likely to feel overwhelmed and shake an infant out of frustration.

Babies are cute but are not meant to be shaken or rocked violently. SBS is commonly caused by frustrated babysitters or "adoring" family members.

@k7v7iloco So true. Caring for an infant requires patience and understanding of infant characteristics. Even “adoring” family members may be ill-equipped to care for a crying infant. When educating parents about shaken baby, we talk about the issues of loving a family member but not choosing them to be a caregiver. Educating family members and outside caregivers about crying is a strategy to decrease incidences of shaken baby injuries.
