BMW 740i 350HP sound + exhaust

Car of a friend of mine, too much oil? What seems to be the problem? Smokes a lot. You can hear it tick a little bit when it's running stationairy

cold air=steam, not smoke

could be a loose tappett. if the taps get faster in rhythm while driving then it is. otherwise you may have blown the engine :s

i have the same promblem i have a bmw 323i and when it runs the engine make a ticking noise and i have the same smoke from the exhaust and its not regular smoke from the winter its a lot sometimes... I need help!!!

If the white smokle is present with the engine and exhaust hot, than you have a blown head gasket. The white smoke is coming from the water witch is going into the combustion chamber. Check the radiator inside and see if you don`t have a kind of white pasta in thereor in the expansion tank. Anyway, during the winter or cold days it is normal to have the white smoke as exhaust gases are condensing and form water vapors.

The ticking could mean valve adjustment or the car is just cold (if you didn't warm it up first) since it is obviously cold outside

not recommended to rev the engine without properly warming the engine oil first to allow fluid to circulate to the valves (the colder outside the denser the oil will become, also depends on what weight and viscosity oil you use)
