Croydon Greens: Stop the Incinerator (Demo at Merton Civic Centre 12.07.11)

On Tuesday 12th July Croydon Greens, Friends of the Earth and local residents demonstrated outside Merton Civic Centre as Senior Planning Inspector, Brian Cook, appointed by the Secretary of State, began the public hearing into the soundness of the South London Waste Plan.

Despite the Green Party and Friends of the Earth submitting a 5,000 word document outlining our alternatives to waste incineration, these submissions will not be considered by the government inspector when he decides whether to approve the South London Waste Plan, neither will Croydon Greens or FOE be invited to contribute to this 'public' hearing.

The South London Waste Plan will almost certainly result in planning applications for waste incinerators in the South London area. The most likely location being Beddington Lane in Sutton.
