Transcript:
Tahiti and the Societies were most likely settled by Polynesians
venturing Southwest from the Marquesas, sometime after 300 A.D.
These intrepid sailors were by this time a culture of Master Mariners.
Along with the skill to build their incredible double-hulled canoes, came
the ancient knowledge of how to sail them confidently
across the greatest ocean on earth.
Those who learned to apply navigating skills
acquired great status amongst their people.
And no wonder, for without these skills,
the islanders were virtual prisoners.
