The Baroque period with all its violent imagery is translated into the modern day mindscape and canvas of Hispanic artist Rigoberto Gonzalez. Relying on the inspiration of Carvaggio and Jusepe de Ribera he depicts the dark side of border "economics". Gonzalez also infuses corridos as a sort of a musical backdrop to his violent imagery-giving modern day violence of a drug deal gone bad--a romaticized look just as if the baroque period was updated.
