BOINC is a program that connects hundreds of thousands of computers together to form a gigantic virtual supercomputer!

YOU, yes YOU can join this system!

There are several projects that this array is currently working on. Most of them are working on useless stuff like finding giant prime numbers or solving extremely complex and stupid mathematical problems... However, at least one project is worth your computer power!
The rosetta@home project searches proteins and antibodies that fight illnesses such as AIDS and malaria! Join us and make your computer´s idle time contribute to the medical advance!

All you have to do is download the BOINC software here:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

And join the rosetta@home project. Your computer will automatically receive small files that contain protein structures, which the computer will analyze. After finishing one block, the computer will send a file containing the results back to the server. This process doesn´t require much bandwidth, as you might think. Even MY internet is more than sufficient, and I have 1Mbit "DSL"!

  • already have downloaded boinc, what's the music? is it kraftwerk?

  • @slisbtor4ok yes, the track is called "It's more fun to compute" :-)

  • great video,

I also participate in Distrubuted Computing, but not under BOINC, I run Folding@Home on my PC, it is old Pentium 4, it is slow but every computed WU will help :)

  • lol, well actually not, because most WUs produce nothing but waste ^_^

But many do, that's right =)

You're probably doing the same thing as I do, except the fact that yours is an independent program while mine is a job for the boinc platform.

  • Wat about seti@home?

It also has a very nice screensaver :)

It searches for contact in the universe or something like that

  • BOINC FTW

  • это Rosetta@home

  • BOINC?

    I prefer BONK.

  • @sciencoking thanks

  • Actually large prime numbers are useful for encoding messages and other things that require high security encryption. I used to crunch for Rosetta@Home, but then they stopped distributing tasks for Mac OS X PPC.

  • Find HyperCam 2.23 PortableTurk !!!
