This teacher observed that many of her students considered standardized tests as coloring contests, because when students were finished with their test, they were able to draw and color. In order to change that attitude, test results were shared with the students so they could see where improvement was needed. They also began evaluating their own progress and setting specific academic goals four times a year. Now when these students have completed the timed standardized testing, their only option is to review the answers on their test. NWEA scores grew from 4% to 35% meeting or exceeding standards in mathematics. Other scores have shown improvement as well.
