compressor = if you imagine a waveform you could draw a line through the peaks at some point. this you'd call the threshold. then you could take all the peaks above that line and squish them down, how much you squish is called ratio. then you could raise the volume of the new squished waveform to how loud it was before. so, your quiter parts seem louder compared to your loud parts. you squished your sound volume wise. you compressed it.
that's the basics. you can do more with it.

Hi i am a new user of Cubase 5 and making music is a hobby ,what i wanted to tell is when i export my sequenced performance(mix down) it gets compressed and as a result i get only 50% volume out of 100% which i get when i am inside the DAW,it also affects the quality of music !,i export in a WAV 32-bit,44.100Khz,Stereo interleaved.. Sir u seam to be a top line pro in this profession can put some light on this chapter ..............
thanks a lot for yo valuable time.

I love VW but despise the latency within protools. Not happy what it does to cymbals either, they tend to get a little fuzzy. Mostly I use it for the 2 bus with my trusty Massey 2007 Limiter. Oh yeh, and hit the FAT switch.

It makes the quieter parts of your signal closer in volume to the louder parts. This way you do not have to automate your fader up and down. It is basically an automated volume knob. It does alot more but that is the basics.

I have been beta-testing, preset-designing and using Vintage Warmer daily since Version 1 for OS 8.6 and 9.2. I just can not reach the same nice tone on drums with other plug-ins.

I'd like to hear the sounds they have made with the removed sound residue.
